DLF Proposal RE: Shortened Season
Option 1: Business as Usual
The 2020 season will proceed forward using our standard rules and settings. Arbitration and contract service time will follow our established thresholds. The reduced season will result in a 9 game DLF schedule consisting of only divisional games (3x3). The playoffs will be structured following the top 8 (3 wildcard teams) as closely as possible. In the event of ties and a reduced ability for tiebreaker scenarios, once all options are exhausted, any remaining tiebreakers will be determined by RNG. If a shortened MLB season does not allow us to play a complete 12-week DLF season, we will modify the schedule structure accordingly, with all effort being put in to maintain divisional and playoff integrity. If the MLB season allows for more than 9 regular season games and still maintains our 3 week playoff structure, we will adjust our structure to accommodate the added match-ups.
Option 2: Freeze Contracts
The 2020 season will proceed forward using our standard rules and settings. Arbitration and contract service time will be frozen across the board, meaning no ARB raises, no contract expiration, and simply put, no changes to current contracts. Since contracts are frozen, this will remove the possibility of impending free agency, meaning no RFA tags can be used and as a result there will be no Compensation Picks in the FYP draft. Any contracts signed after the last bidding round, will be ineligible for a contract freeze, meaning that players signed during the 2020 season will not be frozen to your 2021 roster, and their contracts will expire at season’s end as per usual.
Option 3: Cancelled Season
The 2020 season will be cancelled due to extenuating circumstances and the 2021 DLF season will pick back up at the Winter Meetings. There will be no contract advancements or arbitration raises. There will be no DLF games played this season and because of this the 2021 draft order will be identical to the 2020 draft order. We will create an alternate universe league of 20 teams, no farm systems, 25 man roster and identical settings to DLF, for our managers to participate in for the 2020 season, so we have something to do.
The following transactions will be unaffected by whichever option we vote into existence. Trading can still happen and will proceed following all established rules. Prospects graduating from the minors with 130/50 thresholds met, will continue to be a forced promotion or cut, prior to the DLF Winter Draft. All buyouts made will follow all established rules. The 2020 FYP draft will proceed as planned, following the already established order and structure.
In the scenario where the league is split between all 3 options, we will remove the lowest vote total option and hold a 2nd vote with only the remaining 2.
