My proposed bidding process would address a few of the issues that are being brought up. 1) it allows players to be nominated like in a regular auction. 2) it limits the number of players nominated at each position. Meaning you can still get your prince or Votto if you miss albert. 3) it would take about 30 days to finish so it fits our timeline. 4) its a silent bid so price control can still be a relevant issue.
Each team nominates 1 player only, filling one of these positions:
C
1B
2B
3B
SS
LF
CF
RF
SP

Once a player is nominated he will be listed next to his designated position or next to random if that position is filled. Managers have a deadline to nominate and once that deadline hits, blind bids are open.
The bidding timeline will go as follows:
-Nominations are due by 12pm EST, in the appropriate thread for each round.
-Bids are due by 8pm EST to the "Free Agency" account via PM.
-I will post the winning bids in the designated thread once the calculations are complete.
-The next round of nominations will start as soon as the winners are posted. Early nominations are acceptable since everyone will know which players were already nominated.
The bids will be calculated with the following formula:
Annual Average Salary (AAS) + Guaranteed Total Salary (GTS) + The number of guaranteed years multiplied by 2 + the number of option years multiplied by 1.
Example:
Adrian Gonzalez
3 yrs @ $15 (TO)
AAS= 15
GTS= 15x3= 45
Guaranteed years = 3x2= 6
Options= 1
Total bid value= 15+45+6+1= 67pts
In case of a tie the following will be tiebreakers:
Total Guaranteed Salary
If two bids are exactly equal (which will be rare) the tiebreaker will be to allow those tied teams a chance to make one new bid that has to be greater in value than their previous bid. Once both of the new bids are totaled a winner will be announced. This will be done via PM with the League Manager holding the tiebreaker.
When a team reaches 25 players on their roster they will be removed from the nomination and bidding process. The slot they would have nominated in will become a "Random" slot as well. That random slot will be filled with a nomination from any remaining team that wishes to make another nomination. If more than one nomination comes in for the remaining slot, it will be first come first serve.
