There will be two types of tags that can be applied to players during the off season, a Franchise Tag (FR) and a Restricted Tag (RT).
Franchise Tag
Which was explained a little bit in section 1.4, is a tag that allows you to keep 1 player with an escalating contract for a 3 yr contract with 1 team option. You can apply this tag to any player on your team, during the off season, at any point during the contract's length. It can be after the first year of the contract or after the last year before he becomes a free agent, it's up to you as GM. You are allowed to only have one Franchise player at a time. The initial year, and every subsequent year, will be a $3 raise over the previous year's salary. The team option will also be a $3 raise. This tag comes with a No Trade Clause (NTC) so once you apply this to a player, you are stuck with him for the duration of the FR contract. However, you can buy out your FR contract in year 3, following buy out rules. You will not be allowed to apply a franchise tag to the same player more than one time.
Restricted Tag
Is a tag that allows each team a chance to match the best free agent bid on one of its pending free agents. In other words, this is your chance to match the highest bid and keep one player, per season, that you might have otherwise lost to free agency. Each team is allowed only one restricted tag per off season. It can only be applied to a player that is an impending free agent, thus he does not have a contract or option in place for the upcoming season. All restricted free agents will be bid on during the first free agent bidding period.
If a player that has a restricted tag applied to him, he will reward his previous team with a compensation pick if he is signed by another team. This compensation pick will not be as a penalty to the signing team. Each restricted tag (1 per team) will reward the team that tagged him a compensation pick between R2 and R3 in the annual FYP draft.
There will be only one clause allowed in this league. That will be the No Trade Clause (NTC) that is applied to a franchise player. No other contracts/players will be allowed to have one of these tags.
